I This is one of the most emblematic affirmations of theCourse—and one of the hardest to accept in daily life. “I am not a body, I am free” is not a denial of the body, but a declaration of independence from the tyranny of identifying with the limited. Jesus tells us: be still—stop the mental noise that insists on defining you through your story, your circumstances, or your image.
When the Course speaks of the body as a symbol, it points to the mental construct we have made of our identity. We live hypnotized by what is visible, by what changes, by what dies. But you are not that. And in that instant of stillness—if you truly allow it—you can remember, even for a second, that you remain as God created you: free, innocent, untouched.
And then, yes, return to the world—but without confusion. For the world does not need someone stronger, wiser, or better prepared. It needs someone who has remembered, even for a moment, that he is not a body, and who, from that certainty, lives with a peace that is not of this world.
