I This lesson reveals one of theCourse’s most radical truths: there is no external enemy, no force outside you that can harm you. All suffering arises from what you choose to believe about yourself. Your experience is the echo of an inner story, and that story is written by your own hand.
Condemnation is nothing more than an assumed identity—a mental construct you uphold out of fear of losing control. Yet that very identity is what imprisons you. To change your experience does not require a miracle, but an act of honesty: to recognize that you are hurting yourself by remaining loyal to an image that is not you.
Jesus summarizes it with simplicity and firmness: “What is it that you really want?” For what you choose is what you will experience. Salvation consists in realizing that you can choose again. There is no greater power than this—the power to grant yourself a new story, a new way of seeing yourself. And when you do, it will not be because you have become wiser or purer, but because at last you grew tired of suffering, and became willing to remember that glory was never lost—only forgotten.
Father, I no longer judge myself.
Father, I have awakened!
Father, now I remember Who I am!
