Be with me in my mind all through the day, my Father.
1. My Father,
come to my mind when I awaken,
and shine on me throughout the day.
²Let every minute be a chance to be with You.
³And do not let me forget to give You thanks each hour for being with me,
and for Your constant readiness to hear my call and answer me.
⁴And when the night comes,
let all my thoughts still center on You and on Your Love,
and let me fall asleep with the certainty that I am safe,
sure of Your Care,
and happily aware that I am Your Son.
2. This is how each day should be.
²Practice today the end of fear.
³Have faith in Him who is your Father.
⁴Place all things in His Hands.I
⁵Let Him reveal them to you.
⁶And do not be disheartened, for you are His Son.II
I A child who feels fear or doubt turns to his father for help. Do you not think you should do the same in moments of difficulty? Turn to your Creator in times of distress; remember that He is your Father and that He loves you.
The prayer of this lesson is precisely that: a conscious request to keep His Presence in mind throughout the day. And who is it that asks? The one who feels he does not have, who recognizes that he is far from that experience and wishes to live it. This request, therefore, is already an act of openness and goodwill: it expresses the longing to remember God and to let Him illuminate your day.
When you make it to your Father, become very still and wait for His response. You will feel it first in your heart, as a deep calm, and then it will reach your mind as certainty and clarity. You are not alone; though you may think you are, it is not true.
To practice the end of fear means to trust Him completely: to leave all things in His hands and allow Him to reveal them to you. And when uneasiness returns, remind yourself that you are His Son, safe in His care, and that nothing real can be threatened. At night, give the day back to Him in gratitude, and rest in the certainty that you remain enfolded in His Love.
II Scripture often exhorts us to “be not dismayed,” as in Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.”
Abide in my mind all through the day, my Father.
In Your Love I awaken, live, and rest safely in You.
