The stillness of the Peace of God is mine.
1. Perhaps we are now ready to spend a day in perfect calm.
²And if this is not yet feasible, we will be content—and more than satisfied—to learn how such a day can be attained.I
³If anything disturbs us, let us learn to lay it down and choose again to find the peace.
⁴We need only tell ourselves with certainty:
⁵The stillness of the Peace of God is mine.
⁶And nothing can intrude upon the Peace God Himself has given to His Son.
2. Father,
Your Peace is mine.
²How could I fear that anything could take away what You would have me keep?
³I cannot lose the gifts You gave.
⁴And so the Peace You gave Your Son remains with me,
in stillness and in my eternal love for You.
I The day that lies before you is always a reflection of your state of mind. That is why it is crucial that, before you set out to live it, you cleanse your mind and settle it in stillness. Sit quietly at the beginning of the day, empty your mind of expectations, and open your heart with the sole intention of being receptive. You do not need to heal yourself—that is the function of the Holy Spirit; it is enough that you ask Him and allow Him to do so.
Close your eyes, breathe slowly, and observe. Do nothing. Your intention alone is sufficient. Turn your mind away from past and future; release your fears and worries, and rest in the stillness. Place your attention upon your heart—regard it with tenderness, and tenderness will come to it. And what your heart receives, it will return to your mind in the form of love and peace.
Thus you will begin the day strengthened. And at day’s end, enter once again into that silence; let the residue of what was lived dissolve, and allow the small wounds the world’s dream may have left in you to heal. That is to forgive, and that is to heal.
Each time anger or fear arises within you, stop. It is not worth continuing in conflict. Gather yourself in stillness, center again, and you will recover peace. Whenever you notice that your inner state displeases you, remember that you have thought something untrue—and you can release it.
Make this practice a habit. Twice a day, or whenever something disturbs you, devote a few moments to going within. You will discover that your life fills with surprises of love and light, and one day you will wonder how you ever lived without this simple gesture of mental and spiritual health.
The lesson declares: Mine is the stillness of the Peace of God. Perhaps we cannot yet sustain an entire day in perfect calm, but it is more than enough to learn how peace is attained and to practice recovering it whenever something disturbs us. Perfection is not asked of us—only honesty and practice.
The method is clear: whenever something unsettles us, let us learn to discard it, to lay it aside, and to return to peace. That is the function of a will rightly directed—to choose not to give power to illusions and to reclaim the inheritance God has already given us. Stillness is not won by effort; it is remembered through trust.
Each time we say with certainty, Mine is the stillness of the Peace of God, we affirm the only thing that is true. That peace is already ours, for God has placed it within us, unchanging, awaiting our claim.
Father, Your Peace is mine.
Let nothing today draw me away from the stillness You have given me.
Amen.
