The stillness of Heaven embraces my heart today.
1. Father,
what a peaceful day this is!
²How harmoniously everything falls into place.I
³This is the day appointed as the one in which I learn the lesson that I need do nothing.
⁴In You, every decision has already been made.
⁵In You, every conflict has already been resolved.
⁶In You, all my hopes have already been fulfilled.
⁷Your Peace is mine.
⁸My heart is calm,
and my mind is at rest.
⁹Your Love is Heaven,
and Your Love is mine.
2. The stillness of today gives us hope that we have found the way, and that we have already traveled far along it toward a goal of which we are completely certain.
²Today we will not doubt the end that God Himself has promised us.
³We trust in Him, and in our Self, which remains one with Him.
I Today is a day for calm and ease, a day to allow serenity to be your natural state. Do not worry about anything, and do not rush in the least.
Life never makes mistakes: every situation that comes to you is exactly what you need to learn, and your only task is to forgive it and celebrate it. Life is perfect; the only thing out of place is your expectations—those demands of the ego that seek to impose conditions upon what has already been arranged with perfect wisdom.
Remember that everything happens at the perfect moment and in the perfect way, and that you will always have the means to respond appropriately.
There is no reason whatsoever for anxiety—only for trust.
Welcome every circumstance with joy, as though it were a benevolent teacher helping you remember who you are. That is the true attitude in the school of life.
It may be that throughout the day your mind wavers, feeling different emotions in response to the illusions it perceives. Do not be concerned; that merely reflects that you still assign them differing values, believing that some are more important than others. But the truth is that none of them are, for everything you see is part of the same dream. And here lies your training: to make no distinctions, to equalize all your reactions through a single means—forgiveness—until your mind settles into invulnerable equanimity.
Recognize, too, that the Course proposes something very simple and at the same time very radical: you do not have to do anything. That is the key. Every urge to “do” comes from the ego, which always dictates demands, projects, and fears. But when you pause and remember that you need do nothing to be what you are, you enter true rest.
That “doing nothing” does not mean passivity, but rather the decision not to give importance to illusions, not to involve yourself emotionally in what is unreal. It is the refusal to continue feeding the dream—just as when, in the midst of a nighttime dream, you choose not to cooperate with its figures or its demands.
Thus, serenity is neither sought nor achieved; it is recognized as what has always been there. You do not need to manufacture peace, only to cease obstructing it with your expectations, your judgments, and your fear. To the extent that you learn to regard everything as unimportant, suffering disappears, and only the simple, detached functionality of one who fulfills his role without emotional burden remains.
Father, today I rest in Your peace and discover that I need do nothing to remember that I am already in You.
