LESSON 225

God is my Father, and His Son loves Him.

1. Father,

I must return the Love You have for me.I

2For giving and receiving are the same,

and You have given me all Your Love.

3I must return it to You,

for I want to be fully aware that it is mine,

that it shines in my mind,

protecting it in its gentle light,

keeping it spotless, beloved,

and free from fear so it may know only peace.

4How peaceful is the path that leads Your loving Son to You!

2. My brother, now we find that stillness.

²The path is clear.

³Now we walk it together in peace.

⁴You have reached out your hand to me, and I will never forsake you.II

⁵We are one, and it is this oneness we seek as we take the few remaining steps to complete a journey that never began.

I God created me by extending His Love, and therefore I am His Love.
To be is to love, and since I am, I love.

Loving is my function and my existence, and to love is to be happy; thus, when I love, I am happy.

I exist only when I love, and when I do not love, I do not exist—I merely believe I do.

The statement of this lesson condenses into a single line the core of all spiritual ontology: to be is to love. Love is not a quality added to Being, but its very active essence. Therefore, when one truly loves—not out of lack or possessiveness, but as an expression of inner fullness—one is in communion with Being; one is.

This truth, though formulated in words, can only be fully recognized in experience: when one loves without reservation, even for an instant, one feels real, alive, complete. The absence of love, on the other hand, is also the absence of being, though it may appear as life: it is only mental activity disconnected from the Source.

This lesson does not propose a moral obligation, but a metaphysical revelation: one truly lives only when one loves.

II Jesus is always by my side, reminding me Who I am, for he has remembered it for me.

This lesson invites us to become fully aware of the Love we have already received. Jesus, who has already walked the path, now guides us from our level of perception, offering us a prayer in which we acknowledge our debt of gratitude—not as a burden, but as a desire to respond from the same Love we have received.

The idea that giving and receiving are the same implies that we can recognize Love as ours only to the extent that we share it. Thus, the act of loving becomes the way to remember what we are.

The path, in the end, is simply the acceptance of that oneness that was never lost. In that recognition, every trace of sacrifice disappears: to love is not something we “must” do as an effort, but something we want to do in order to experience the peace of being One.

God is my Father, and His Son loves Him.

In His shared Love I find a peace that has no end.
