I am not a body. I am free. For I remain as God created me.
1. W-185 “I want the Peace of God.”
²The Peace of God is all I want.I
³The Peace of God is my only goal,
⁴The purpose of all my living here,
⁵The end I seek,
⁶My purpose,
⁷My function,
⁸And my life while I reside in a place that is not my home.
⁴I am not a body.
⁵I am free.
⁶For I remain as God created me.
I This is one of those lessons impossible to misunderstand: the only thing you truly want is the peace of God. Yet because you sometimes do not dare to admit it, you disguise it. Peace puts on the mask of plans, objects, or goals—a new house, an ideal vacation, an overdue conversation, a paid bill. There is nothing wrong with these things, but none of them is the real desire.
All the time you are seeking peace—the real kind—even if you do not always know it. The key is to recognize it: what you think you want is only a form, a poor symbol of the single longing that truly drives you.
Train your mind to see clearly. Behind every search, every expectation or frustration, there is only one request: peace. And that peace is not found outside you, nor gained by fixing the world. It is within you, and it has always been there.
To say “I want the peace of God” is to stop deceiving yourself. It is to stop asking for little when, in truth, you want everything. It is to come home.
Now I know what it is I have always been searching for.
I only wanted the Peace of God,
and now I know that His Peace surrounds me,
for it is all that exists.
