LESSON 216

I am not a body. I am free. For I remain as God created me.

1. W-196 «It can be but myself I crucify».

²All that I do, I do unto myself.I

³If I attack, I suffer.

⁴But if I forgive, salvation is given me.

⁴I am not a body.

⁵I am free.

⁶For I remain as God created me.

I This lesson unmasks the ego’s cruel game: every judgment you cast, every attack you project, every condemnation you pronounce does not wound another—it wounds you. For there is no “other.” Everything you do, you do to yourself. And when you attack, you suffer—not by divine punishment, but by the inner law of the mind that believes in separation.

The Course is, in essence, a training for the ego. It does not speak to your Self, which needs no correction, but to the character you made to justify your fear. And it tells that character, with firmness: every crucifixion you see outside is your own denial of innocence—your own. Yet there is a way out, clear and radical: forgiveness. Not the moralistic kind that hides superiority, but the forgiveness that recognizes there was never any real guilt.

To forgive is to free yourself from your own condemnation. It is to release the stone you were holding before you threw it. And then you remember: I am not a body, I am not this figure that suffers and attacks. I am free, because I remain as God created me.

Father, I have used the omnipotence You gave me to attack myself.

I do not want to suffer anymore.

I will arise and go home to You.
